AID GROUP GIVES OUT EMERGENCY KITS FOR FREE TO POLICE DOG UNITS ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT ARE PAID FOR VIA FINANCIAL DONATIONS BY CARING INDIVIDUALS
The Louisa Police Department was very recently the recipient of a donation of emergency protection equipment for their K-9 police officer unit by a national charity organization that gives for free to smaller police and sheriff departments around the U.S.
Protecting K9 Heroes, the group that made the gifted donation to the Louisa Police Department, issued a press release statement about the granting of the emergency equipment to the Louisa Police Department. It reads as the following:
“Protecting K9 Heroes is pleased to announce that K-9 Kenya, of the Louisa Police Department located in Kentucky, has been granted a Narcan kit and K9 Trauma kit.”
“These gifts of protection were made possible by donations to Protecting K9 Heroes and sponsored by Cheryl Loiacono in memory of Dean Wierzbicki.”
“K-9 Kenya is an 8-year-old German Shepherd and is partnered with Sergeant (Steven) Wilburn. Kenya enjoys playing in water but does not water being sprayed from the water hose. He (Kenya) prefers to receive all the attention and gets jealous if all eyes and hands are not on him.”
“Our K-9 Trauma kits are equipped with first aid and trauma supplies for both the handler and K-9. We created a backpack style trauma kit so that handlers can throw it on while on possibly long tracks. We want to ensure one hand is on the leash and one is free for emergencies if they arise.”
There is also room to add extra water, ammo, and anything else they see fit. Our kits are lightweight and weigh less than 7 lbs. We hope this lightweight and handsfree trauma kit encourages handlers to always take their kits into the field with them.”
“Naloxone, also known as Narcan, blocks the effects of opioids and can reverse an overdose within 2-5 minutes. Each kit includes one 4 Mg device as well as a Narcan holder and Holster. The K-9 must still be seen by a veterinarian after an exposure. Unfortunately, we risk losing K-9s to the drug epidemic during searches. It is our goal is to have their handlers properly equipped in case of emergencies. Handlers are instructed to receive training from their local veterinarians on the proper use of this product.”
“Protecting K9 Heroes NFP Ltd is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is operated on a 100% volunteer basis only. We can protect K9s through donations and support from the community. It is our mission to reduce the amount of K-9 related deaths throughout the United States by supplying as many of them with the protection they need. We offer ballistic vests, K9 First Aid Kits, and Narcan Kits.”
