On Tuesday February 25,2020 the Louisa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting at The First Baptist Church in Louisa, KY. last night.
The (DAR) is a lineage -based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a person involved in the United States efforts towards independence. They are a non-profit group, who promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Its primary role is to chronicle the lives and histories of those Americans who had been a part of the American Revolution.
Lynn Courtney- current Regent of the Louisa (DAR) Chapter – called the meeting to order. She started out by welcoming all members. The (DAR) Ritual was observed. Blessings was led by member Patty Ferrell. Members then said “The Pledge of Allegiance” and “The American Creed”.
They also included in their prayers, get well wishes for Glenda Grayson, Myrtle Walker, Freddie Mae Daniels. Condolences to Janice Spencer’s son who lost his home last week due a house fire. Condolences were also sent out to Kathy Hinkle who had lost family member, Debbie Short. Lynn also handed out copies of the DAR yearbooks to every member.
Member Evelyn DeBoard discussed February being National Heart Month. She had written a news letter to hand out to the members, on tips to improve heart health and the benefits of exercise.
The group announced the start of a fundraising event called “Piece Makers”, where they are making small crafts and items to sell at the Septemberfest. Also discussed was the finishing of a handmade quilt which the members are currently selling chances on for $1.00 each or 6 tickets for $5.00. The drawing for this quilt will be held on July 4, 2020. It will be beautiful when finished.
They will be making another handmade quilt with Fall colors, each square will be made by a member, to sell at the Septemberfest. They are also selling 2020 Calendars with a picture of The Louisa &Fort Gay Tri- Bridge Confluence of the Levisa & Tug River Confluence on it. Chaplin, Patty A. Ferrell read an article about The Constitution to the members. The meeting finished up with a drawing for door prizes. Winners were Sheila Kensinger, Theresa Chaffins and myself, Sandra Jeffers(not a member), writer for The Levisa Lazer. Thank you to all the ladies from myself, for being so sweet and kind!
