The Lawrence County Emergency management director Mike Woods informed the public today that they were notified early this morning from the Kentucky EOC of a large diesel spill in the community of Vansant, Virginia overnight after a fuel tanker crashed on US 460.
“…Virginia authorities and responders were able to prevent the majority of the spill from reaching the river, however, some did make it to the Levisa headwaters. We’ve alerted Louisa Water to begin monitoring their intakes closer than normal in case any of the fuel reaches this far north,” Woods said.
“…We’ve spoken with the NWS office and have determined that the earliest our plant would be impacted would be late tonight but more likely Wednesday into Thursday.”
“At this time everything is proceeding as normal and we have no concerns with the water quality.”
