Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin appointed Lawrence County native, Dr. Brent Hutchinson, the executive director of Hindman Settlement School, to the Kentucky Advisory Council for Exceptional Children earlier this month.
Mr. Hutchinson is the son of Doug and Gabrielle “Gobby” Hutchinson. He attended Fallsburg Elementary, then LCHS and graduated in 1992.
“One of the values I learned growing up in Lawrence County is that everyone matters. The opportunity I have to speak about the needs of exceptional children from across Kentucky is not one I take lightly,” Dr. Hutchinson said.
Hutchinson will represent members of private schools or public charter schools and serve for a term expiring June 30, 2021.
“It’s an honor to serve Kentucky’s exceptional children in this way. Our advocacy, policy development, and illumination of their learning needs is tantamount to all of our success,” Hutchinson said in response to his appointment.
The Kentucky State Advisory Council for Exceptional Children is composed of 21 citizen members appointed by the Governor.
The Council provides policy guidance with respect to special education and related services for children with disabilities in Kentucky and advises and assists the Department of Education with providing appropriate services for children aged birth through 20.
