MAY 15, 2017 – written by WADE QUEEN
THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT UPTICK IN THE NUMBER OF ARRESTS AROUND THE BIG SANDY COUNTIES, ESPECIALLY LAWRENCE COUNTY LAST WEEK
AND THE NUMBER OF INMATES BEING HOUSED CURRENTLY HAS TEMPERED DOWN, BUT IS STILL ABOVE NORMAL, THEY WERE HOVERING BETWEEN 240 AND 250 FOR OVER A WEEK NOW. WHICH SHOWS EVEN WITH A SPIKE IN ARRESTS, WITH THE JAIL POPULATION STAYING THE SAME, NEW ARREST SUBJECTS BROUGHT TO THE BSRDC ARE BEING GIVEN BOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, SOMETIMES WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS OF BEING BROUGHT TO THE JAIL. ( WHICH IS WHY WE MISSED THE NAMES OF THE ARRESTING OFFICERS ON SEVERAL OF THE ARRESTS THIS WEEK).
OUT OF THE AT LEAST 95 INMATES BOOKED AT THE BIG SANDY REGIONAL DETENTION CENTER IN PAINTSVILLE FROM 12:01 A.M. MAY 8 THRU 11:59 P.M. MAY 15, 20 OF THEM WERE FROM LAWRENCE COUNTY (ONE OF WHICH WAS A CUSTODY TRANSFER FOR A MAJOR SENTENCING). COMPARED THAT TO OUT OF THE 75 INMATES BOOKED AT THE BIG SANDY REGIONAL DETENTION CENTER IN PAINTSVILLE FROM 12:01 A.M. MAY 1 THRU 11:59 P.M. MAY 7, 8 OF THEM WERE FROM LAWRENCE COUNTY, FOR A TOTAL OF NINE ARRESTS.
