Paintsville, Ky. — The Lawrence Co. Bulldogs played eight games in three days this past week at the Johnson Central team camp and went 3-5 against tough competition from teams around the mountains.
The Dawgs will be very inexperienced next year after losing 7 out of their top eight players. LC lost seniors Robert Dalton, Grant Kiser, Tanner Black, Josh Ratliff, Austin Chaffin and rumor around Louisa is senior to be Shawn Moore is transferring to Sheldon Clark.
Timmy Dalton will have to carry the load bring along the young Dawgs at a slower pace.
The Johnson Central team camp kicked off on Thursday afternoon as the Dawgs played three games the first day losing to (on paper) the best team in the mountains Perry Co. Central by the score of 68-43. PCC picked up two big man transfers from June Buchanan this summer.
In the next game the Dawgs fell to East Ridge 69-59 and then took care of Paintsville 46-45 in a close one.
On Friday afternoon Lawrence Co. went 2-1 on day two beating Prestonsburg 45-35 and then beat the host team Johnson Central 66-58 before falling to Magoffin Co. 78-48 in the last game of the day.
On Saturday afternoon, the last day of the team camp the Dawgs lost a heartbreaker to Allen Central 63-62 as LC missed a layup at the buzzer that would have won the game. After a team dropped out, the Dawgs played Perry Central once again and lost 75-56.
The team is at Transylvania for a team camp early in the week and then will come home and travel to Prestonsburg for a couple of games.
Head Coach Travis York is keeping the kids busy and that will only help the young Dawgs in the long run.
