INSTALLATION OF NEW OFFICERS ON AGENDA FOR MAY DAR MEETING
Members of the Louisa Chapter DAR met on May 28th in the Cafe of of the First Baptist Church for the annual Dinner meeting and awards.
The meeting was called to order by Regent Sabrina May.
In attendance were guest Sergeant John Runyons Instructor for the Lawrence County High School ROTC, Lieutenant Stephanie Perry who also was the recipient of the DAR Bronze medal award,Major Tristen Workman, Command Sergeant Major Corrina Lemaster, 1st Sergeant Ashley Bell, and 2nd Lieutenant Callie Robertson. The ROTC presented the colors and recited the Pledge of Allegiance with members.
Also the DAR Scholarship award was presented to Lincoln Rose with parents Chris and Carmella in attendance. He also won the District award.
James Barnett, Veterans of Foreign War and Frank Kincaid American Legion attended. Judy Carter, DAR 6th District Director that includes ten counties was presented an appreciation award from the Louisa Chapter DAR.
Many chapter awards were given to committees for activities during the past year such as American Indian minute, Pollination conservation, Media and Public Relations,Special events Float for September Fest, Harvest tour participation, Celebration of Veterans Day at the Courthouse, Patriotic Committee, American Heritage and National Defense, and Literacy Promotion.
Installation of Officers for the next two years and beginning after the May meeting were: Regent Lynn Courtney, First Vice Evelyn DeBoard,Second Vice Karen Maynard, Recording Secretary Myrtle Walker, Corresponding Secretary Rosie Pfost, Treasurer Carolyn Thompson, Chaplain Patty Ferrell, Historian Janice Spencer, Librarian Nadine Meek, Registrar Sherry Burchett.
Four DAR members were honored for years of service, Kathryn Reid 10 years, Lynette Chaffin 20 years, Gretta Maynard 20 years and Jessie Salyer for 70 years.
An awesome dinner was catered by Rebel Barn and enjoyed by thirty seven members and guest. Decorations were provided by hostesses Lynn Courtney, Evelyn DeBoard, Theresa Chaffin, Glenda Grayson, Lynette Chaffin and Carolyn Thompson.
No meeting in July and August. Next regular meeting will be August 27th at 6:00 pm in the Cafe of the First Baptist church.
