STATEMENT FROM LAWRENCE COUNTY ATTORNEY MIKE HOGAN:
“As we now know, the 2019 campaign for Kentucky Attorney General will be for an open seat, as Attorney General Andy Beshear has announced he will run for governor instead of for a second term.
Now more than ever, I believe this means that the Republican Party must nominate a qualified candidate for attorney general who can win a general election. Our last nominee proved that he was not electable despite a Republican wave election, and he has proven since that time that he is ideologically incompatible with a majority of Kentucky Republicans.
Criminals belong in prisons, not on the streets. Illegal immigrants should have to follow the law. We have a culture problem, not a gun problem in Kentucky and America. Public assistance programs funded by hardworking taxpayers shouldn’t be ripped off by con artists. And yes, we should drug test welfare recipients.
I’m a Donald Trump Conservative, and I want to see us elect a Republican Attorney General in Kentucky in 2019.
That being said, I am seriously considering once again running for Attorney General so that Kentucky can have an experienced prosecutor as its chief law enforcement official. Over the coming weeks, I will be traveling across Kentucky and speaking with people in every corner of our state.
I would appreciate your input, and your prayers as my family and I make this decision.”
