Fort Gay, W. Va. — Fort Gay lost a heartbreaker 44-43 Wednesday night against Wayne as the Vikings honored eight basketball players and three cheerleaders for 8th Grade night.
Fort Gay beat Wayne last Friday night on a three pointer at the buzzer from Elijah Fox.

The game was close throughout with the Wayne Co. rivals being evenly matched.
Wayne led 12-10 after one period and 24-23 at halftime.
In the second half Wayne led by eight points before Fort Gay cut it to one late in the contest but never could get the lead and Wayne prevailed.
Fort Gay was led by Carson Campbell with 18 points, Dylan Vanhoose tallied 12 points, Dylan Dawson finished with 8 points and Eli Blackburn chipped in with 5.
FGMS hit 2 three pointers and went 11-19 at the line.

Both teams will be off until the Wayne Co. tournament February 20-24 at Crum middle school.

“… Hard fought game, the boys played to the best of their ability. The 8th graders I’ve had this year have been awesome, they played with heart and they had fun while doing so. The atmosphere was awesome, but like I told the boys, we’ve just gotta put that behind us and look forward to the county tournament.”
