FALLSBURG ELEMENTARY GETS NEW PRINCIPAL
FALLSBURG, Ky. — Mrs. Sara Bowen has been chosen as the new principal at Fallsburg Elementary School Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher announced late Thursday. She was chosen by the Fallsburg Site Based Decision making committee at the school.
She is is replacing Stuart Cook who served one year at Fallsburg before moving to LCHS as assistant principal for the upcoming school year.
Fletcher was able to name Cook as assistant LCHS principal quickly because of the absence of a Site Based Decision Making Committee at LCHS which is a result of the SIG grant six years ago. That grant ordered the dismantling of the SDDM committee and gave the siperintendent all the power to hire and fire at the high school. State officials have not said when the SBDM committee will have to be resumed at the county’s only high school.
Cook will replace Joey Cecil at LCHS after Cecil was named principal at Louisa Middle School this year when long time LMS leader Tommy Castle decided to move to the new Middle Alternative School as principal.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to be the new principal at Fallsburg Elementary/ Middle School, Mrs. Bowen said today.
She is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence County High School and a 2004 graduate of Morehead State University with a masters degree in school administration from Morehead State. She has been a Kindergarten teacher at Louisa West for 12 years.
Ms. Bowen is married to Dennis Bowen and they have 2 children. Ciana,16, and Hayden, 3. The daughter of the late Bobby Kise and Tammy and Phillip Pack, she has two brothers, Brent and Shane Pack.
“I cannot wait to see what this year holds for us at Fallsburg,” Mrs. Bowen said. “I have had the chance to meet the staff, parents and children this week and everyone has been so welcoming that I already feel like I’m at home.”
She says the job will be demanding but that she is up for the challenge. “My goal is to support teachers, help guide the students to reach their greatest potential and foster a love for learning.”
“I look forward to working with everyone at Fallsburg and the community. It’s going to be a great year!”
