COACH’S COMMENTS
“… Very proud of our kids for winning our program’s third straight district championship. Coming into this season, based on what we lost to graduation in 2016, not sure many people would’ve picked us to defend it. Then add to that some key injuries and other things that happened thru the season, it’s a huge testimony to our kids. It’s been a great run thru this season watching a lot of young guys step up into key roles. I believe in the value of ‘team’ and things these young men can learn that will help them out in adulthood.”
“…Can’t say enough about the leadership I’ve seen Brad Parks demonstrate all season long. Each time someone else went down he seemed to elevate his level of play in every facet of the game. Austin Roe has put together an absolutely amazing season as well, both offensively and defensively behind the plate.”
“…Hosting the District this week proved to be a major challenge. Our guys were coming in twice a day for multiple days, putting the tarp on and pulling the tarp as well as working on the field. It’s a very resilient group and they were able to still keep their focus and perform on the field when it mattered.”
“…Our two young pitchers (CJ Fairchild and Bryce Blevins) both pitched well this week and put us in position to win our District again. Due to the championship game being suspended we had to go to our bullpen to finish the finals. Junior Blake Jordan stepped up an gave us exactly what we needed, going 3 innings and striking out 5. He was as sharp as he’s been all year tonight. He also played exceptional defensively this week in right field making 3 really nice diving plays. Hopefully he, along with everyone else, is playing their best ball right now and can put us in position to make a run next week to get back to Lexington.”
