MOREHEAD, KY — Lawrence Co. ( 12-5 ) was eliminated from the Class 2A Section 4 Tournament after being defeated 77-60 by Morgan Co. ( 13-5 ) Saturday evening at Rowan Co. High school.
The Dawgs fell behind 24-12 in the second quarter before going on a 14-0 run to take a 26-24 lead. Morgan Co. retook the lead 31-28 with just over a minute left and the Dawgs had the ball before taking a contested shot which led to five points in 30 seconds to trail 36-28 at half and the momentum was in favor of the Cougars.
Morgan Co. went on a 27-9 run between the second and third quarters to lead by as much as 20 points. The Bulldogs cut it to 8 but could not get any closer as the Cougars played keep away and made shot after shot.
MCHS shot 28-47 for the game which is almost 60%. The Cougars hit 8-11 from behind the arc.
Tyler Maynard led a trio of Dawgs in double figures with 18 points, Cody Maynard 16 points, Chase Sartin 13 points and 7 rebounds, Noah Fairchild had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks, CJ Fairchild 5 points.
LCHS shot 22-53 from the field and 5-21 from the three point line, 11-15 from the charity stripe.

Morgan Co. will play Knox Central on Sunday for the Section 4 Championship and both teams will advance to Owensboro next weekend.
Lawrence Co. will travel to Magoffin Co. Tuesday night and host Floyd Central Friday night in a key 58th District game.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“… That was a good ole fashion butt kickin’, everything we tried they had an answer for. Morgan Co. is a senior laden team that is well coached and well disciplined. They shot the ball great I think 8-11 from three. We have had some luck when we press teams but tonight we got spread out and they made us pay.”
“… Right before half was killer, we were supposed to run clock until 8 seconds left and then run the play and a couple of them didn’t hear me or I would have called timeout. We should have been down three and ended up down 8 points going into halftime. That was a major turning point in the game.”
“… I think the Class 2A Tournament is great. If you were here for the girls game the atmosphere was great. It gives teams a chance to win a state tournament. We will get back to work because we have a big matchup next Friday with Floyd Central at home. No idea who they will have with everything going on up there. Tough to scout because we don’t know.”
