FLETCHER SAYS BOARD HAS SPENT NEARLY $500,000 ON TEXTBOOKS AND TECHNOLOGY THIS YEAR
LOUISA, Ky. — After last month’s minutes were approved Finance officer Edris Humphrey delivered good news to the four BOE members present for the regular July meeting last night at the LCHS Library.
Ms. Humphrey stated that the current balance for the school system is better now than it has been since 2007. The board raised taxes last year for the second straight year but better spending habits were the reason for the good financial situation board members said.
Dr. Fletcher also explained that about a half million dollars has been spent on new textbooks and technology. The fiscal year ends on July 25 and the actual annual report will be ready for next month’s meeting.
The Board approved final payment to Floyd Excavation for $6,641.80 for the track renovation. The track had a water drainage problem that was ruining the expensive Bermuda grass and track surface the system has paid nearly $250,000 for five years ago.
Board chairman Heath Preston pointed out that they saved $130,000 on the project. Superintendent Fletcher stated that there was no more important project for the community and the school as the track because it is used by the public 24/7 plus the school system uses it every day, too. “There are people walking and using the track at all hours of the day,” Fletcher said.
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
A question from the audience was posed to the board about whether the elevator at the Louisa Middle School would be fixed by August 3rd, the first day of school. The board assured the public that the matter was being attended to at the present time, and would be operational by the first day of school.
An email question via TheLevisaLazer.com asked Dr. Fletcher by email if classified personnel are allowed under school law to supervise direct relatives. Fletcher did not elaborate but said “No”. He also said there are no classified personnel currently supervising direct kinfolk in the district.
