Bennie Jay Hammond
1932 — 2017
Bennie Jay Hammond 84 of Louisa, KY went home to be with the Lord on Monday May 1, 2017 following a brief illness.
Bennie was born Nov. 3, 1932 at Clifford, KY the son of the late Jarrett and Wilma Maynard Hammond. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Carter Hammond, a brother Jimmy Ray Hammond, a sister Madeline Bentley, and a son-in-law Tommy “Tombo” Boyd Jr.
Bennie proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and he also served in the National Guard. Bennie worked for the Wilson Funeral Home for many years until his health declined. He was a member of the Louisa Freewill Baptist Church, Apperson F& AM 195, Scottish Rite, and York Rite. Bennie loved the Lord, his church family, country, and his family.
He is survived by two daughters Vickie Painter and husband Scotty of Dalton, GA and Bonnie Boyd of Louisa; four sons Bennie Eugene Hammond and wife Denise of Hampton, VA, Ronnie Hammond and wife Kay, Billy Hammond and wife Andrea, and Rickie Hammond and wife Brettia all of Louisa; a half-sister Sandy Oney of Ohio; and a special caregiver Debbie Burke; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and a host of friends and family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday May 5 at 1:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Workman and Rev. Kevin Davis officiating. Graveside military rites held by the members of the American Legion and VFW will follow at the Bradley Cemetery Louisa, KY.
Friends may visit the family on Thursday May 4 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home.
Masonic rites will be held on Thursday May 4 at 7:00 pm at the funeral home by members of the Apperson F&AM 195.
