PIKE COUNTY MAN INDICTED FOR STRANGLING GIRLFRIEND HAS BOND REVOKED AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF STRANGLING SAME WOMAN AGAIN
DECEMBER 15, 2019 – written by WADE QUEEN
A Pike County man who was under indictment for allegedly strangling his girlfriend in July of this year, has had his bond in that case revoked. The reason for the bond revocation comes after the man was arrested again, just last week, on the exactly same charge for which he was under indictment.
ALLEGED DOMESTIC LADY CHOKER DIKE NEWSOME IN PIKE CIRCUIT COURT DECEMBER 12.
36-year-old Dike Newsome, of Mikes Branch near Pikeville, appeared in Pike Circuit Court before Judge Eddy Coleman on Thursday, December 12. Judge Coleman ordered Dike Newsome’s bond be revoked on his indictment from earlier this year charging Newsome with first-degree strangulation; after Dike Newsome was arrested on a new strangulation charge last Friday.Dike Newsome’s defense attorney,Ron Diddle, told the court that given the circumstances of both the indictment case and the new case, Diddle said could not defend Dike Newsome against the motion to have his bond revoked.
Assistant Pike County Commonwealth’s Attorney Melissa Goodman said in both the July incident and last week’s incident, Dike Newsome allegedly strangled his victim in the presence of the woman’s child. Goodman said Newsome’s alleged pattern of violence against his girlfriend, whom is the alleged victim in both domestic cases, is disturbing and warranted the bond revocation.
IRONY: DIKE NEWSOME’S WEAPONS OF CHOICE IN HIS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES ARE RESTRAINED BY POLICE HANDCUFFS.
Ms. Goodman also said this latest incident occurred on the same day that Dike Newsome appeared in Pike Circuit Court and was released from one of the conditions of his bond from his earlier violent strangulation case.
Commonwealth Attorney Goodman stated it is not uncommon for victims of domestic violence to return to their alleged abusers. She said the reasons vary, but the fault falls squarely upon the person committing the alleged domestic violence abuse.
Dike Newsome remains in the custody of the Pike County Detention Center.
