Fort Gay, W. Va. — Pioneer 7th grader Ike Meddings hit a tie breaking three pointer with 20 seconds left and Wayne outlasted Fort Gay for a thrilling double overtime victory 45-41 Monday in Wayne Co. Boys Middle School Basketball action.
In a wildly entertaining game that went back and forth all game long the Vikings led 12-9 at the end of one period.
The Pioneers battled back to lead 20-18 at the break.
Late in the second half the Vikings led 31-28 when Meddings hit a corner three pointer to tie it up and force overtime.
In the first overtime Evan Ball went 4-4 from the foul line and Fort Gay led 37-35 before Ronnie Staley hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to force overtime number two.
In the second OT and the scored tied at 41 apiece Meddings knocked down the game winning three pointer and then added a free throw to seal the victory.
For the Vikings Peyton Marcum led the way with 12 points, Josh Hofmeister tallied 9 points, Hayden Pennington 8 points, Cole Jordan 7 points and Evan Ball 5 points.
Ike Meddings led the Pioneers with 11 points, Brycen Queen 10 points
Eli Waller 9 points, Zane Adkins 4 and Cayden Gilliam 4 points each, Kaden Watts 3 points, Ronnie Staley and Colton Mathis 2 points each.
Wayne will host Crum on Thursday and Fort Gay will host Ceredo-Kenova the same day.
