COACH’S COMMENTS
“… in the Apollo game we just could not get anything going offensively. Out hit them 8-3 but we had some base running mistakes and couldn’t string hits together. Give them credit, their pitching and defense were very solid.
Lucas Maynard pitched arguably the best outing of his career. Really attacked the strike zone and kept them off balance. Pitched well enough to deserve a win. Hopefully a sign of what he will give us the rest of the way.”
“… Against Louisville Eastern and again it was a tough day for hitters. We faced a Division 1 arm and I think the score was indicative of that. CJ Fairchild was yet again dominant on our side. Going 6 scoreless innings against a very good team, followed by Jacob Fletcher with 2 scoreless in relief. Jacobs stuff is really really good. We decided to put him this week as our go to relief guy and He answered with a save and a win in relief.”
“… Overall this trip is what we needed. Going 4-1 against the teams we did speaks volumes to what we potentially have here. In four of our five games we faced the opponents #1 or #2s. and were able to figure out ways to win.”
“… We have some things we have to improve on the offensive side of things. But on the mound and defensively we were pretty darned good this week and when it comes down to it that’s what this game is about. 2 shutouts, and 4 earned runs in 5 games. 3 complete games out of Jackson Feltner, Bryce Blevins, and Lucas Maynard. With CJ Fairchild and Tyler Maynard working 6.”
The Bulldogs resume play Monday April 8 at Ashland Paul Blazer @6pm. THEY WILL ALSO BE IN ACTION THE FOLLOWING DAY AT HOME AT RANDY KEETON FIELD VS. REGIONAL FOE PIKEVILLE AT 7:30PM.
