STANVILLE, KY. — Lawrence Co. ( 15-20 ) made their first ever appearance in a Volleyball Regional tournament and even though the score wasn’t what they wanted, the VolleyDawgs showed heart in a 3-0 sweep against Region favorite Pikeville (31-7) on Tuesday night at the newly christened Betsy Layne High School Gymnasium.
and won 25-10.
In the second set the VolleyDawgs settled down and came out of the break with a 6-0 lead before Pikeville knew what hit them. Lawrence Co. continued the hot play and held a 17-15 lead before Panther ace server Lyndsie Bartley rattled off 10 straight points to secure the 25-17 victory and give Pikeville a 2-0 lead.
In the third and final set Pikeville pulled away for a 25-15 victory to end and historic season for Lawrence Co.
Senior Lexie Workman, Senior Kaylee Ison, Junior Lillian Kinser and Freshman Kyleah Ward all played well for the VolleyDawgs.
It was a lot of firsts for Lawrence Co. Volleyball this season.
* Most wins in school history.
* Most District wins in one season.
* Won a District tournament game.
* Competed in the 15th Region tournament.
Pikeville will advance the the Region semifinals and face Paintsville on Wednesday in what should be an absolute dandy of a ballgame.

“… We played great. There were times when we failed to execute on serves as well as coverage, which cannot happen against Pikeville. We went in knowing that we had to constantly apply pressure and the girls did just that. Pikeville is a tremendous team and we played with them most of the game. I’m proud of this team and I’m excited for the future of our volleyball program.”
