LOUISA, Ky. — Glenda and I would like to announce our new theLevisaLazer.com WordPress format which is state-of-the-art in the website business. It is designed to make viewing The Lazer easy and entertaining. We have been in business for ten years now and the opportunity to upgrade to the very best was irresistible.
LAZER Comments Policy Updated
We have also changed our Comments policy and now require a name and legitimate email address when making comments on stories in the Lazer. The decision was somewhat difficult because we have always believed the “little guys” should have a chance to speak truth to power by making statements in The Lazer without risking repercussions from their bosses or the government.
But, the sheer number of comments coming in with the “open” comments option has become overwhelming and most of them are from web scanners who are merely attempting to push their own websites from all over the world. It had become nearly impossible to weed them out and still allow locals to make comments.
Plus, many people here were abusing the free and open comments policy to further their own agendas or take out their anger against people using our pages. So we had to do something. I want everyone to know that this was not an easy decision on my part but an easy one on behalf of all the folks we serve.
Glenda and I own TheLevisaLazer.com lock stock and barrel and although I have some people who I cherish their advice and always consider them when making decisions like this, the buck stops with me. if you have any question about this, check my record in the 35 years I’ve been in the media business.
For ten years now we have “labored” to create a news media that the folks in our coverage area can be proud of and you have responded in overwhelming numbers as we are now rated in the top ten community news websites in our class on Google with an average of 40,000 views per month.
This new WordPress format is the leading one in the world and has features we are still implementing after having the new look live for almost two weeks. The mobile version is much easier to use and we are still working on it. So far the response has been very positive and encouraging enough that we leased new equipment last week and have signed up some new sponsors to help us keep the website going strong.
Our sponsors are local businesses who care about the community and our coverage of it — but there are so many that could also be helping. That’s OK, we will continue to move forward and improve our product until the cows come home as long as we get the response we’ve gotten over the past ten years.
I like the new format and I applaud the fact that people have to leave a name and email address with their comments. Too often people like to post crude, rude, unprofessional and nasty comments because they knew that they were going to be anonymous.
I appreciate your dedication to our county. I love the Lazer. Thank you!
Is there an editorial section? If so, where is it? Thank you.
Dale, We have an editorial-Letters section on the main page.
The Lazer is a great publication. Mark and Glenda know their stuff and cover the area news completely and fairly.
