Joseph Gerald Kearns, 86 of Fort Gay, WV passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018.
Joe was born March 5, 1932 in the historic Captain Milton Freeze home on the banks of the Big Sandy River in Louisa to the late Olin and Carrie Vinson Kearns. Joe attended Fort Gay Baptist Church, was charter President for the Fort Gay Area Lions Club, was Past Master of the Vinson Lodge No. 66 of Fort Gay, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the El-Hasa Shrine in Ashland and a member of the A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of West Virginia. In addition, he was also retired from Ashland Oil.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Glenna Faye Wellman Kearns; two daughters, Kay Harrill (Dan) of Florida and Rhonda Kearns Clark (Jimmy) of Fort Gay, WV; one son Robey Kearns of Fort Gay, WV; one granddaughter Lauren Aragon (Juan) of California; two grandsons Joseph Kearns (Juliana) of Maryland and Robey Thomas Kearns of Fort Gay, WV; three great-grandchildren Grady Kearns and Adalynn Kearns of Maryland and Ashton Aragon of California; one brother Tommy Kearns (Linda) of Ohio; two sisters Carolyn Finley (Ersie) of Ohio and Jean Sturgill (Charles) of Fort Gay, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Alta Jane Davidson, Maewanda Welsh, Peggy McClure, and Hattie Ellen Bryley; one infant brother Socrates Lafayette Kearns and one daughter in law Cathy Nugent.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tim Preston and Brother Dick Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Fort Gay Bartram Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel.
