Half of all arrests were for Crystal Meth
On January 3, 2018, Wayne Co., W.Va. Sheriff Thompson announced the activity arrests for Wayne County Drug Enforcement unit in 2017. Sheriff Thompson is very pleased with the work they have done along with the Cuffed Task Force in the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
This year we have encountered substances with the following outcome.
* OF THE 144 felony drug arrests and the 374 felony drug warrants, crystal meth (ice) has accounted for over 50 percent of the substances encountered by the D.E.U., with heroin accounting for approximately 25 percent. Other substances suspects have been charged with this year by us include: suboxone, marijuana card, shake and bake meth, oxycodone, clonazepam, Xanax, hydrocodone, cocaine, Opana, black tar heroin, crack cocaine, alprazolam, and neurontin.
* The U.S. Marshals Task Force has aided in many of our arrests this year. The D.E.U. Has also worked with the West Virginia State Police in solving an armed robbery that occurred at the Bottom’s Up Bar on Walker’s Branch in Ceredo. In this the D.E.U. stopped the suspect vehicle approximately a week later aiding the state police in identifying the suspects involved. Inter- agency cooperation has been very effective with drug interdiction, as well as stepped up and force made by the Wayne County Sheriffs Department Road Patrol.
* The D.E.U. aided Wayne Co. Sheriffs Department road patrol in a home invasion in Shoals. After a brief investigation by D.E.U., we were able to identify the suspect located in Meadowlinks Trailer Park.
