‘Something needs to be done with procedure parents have to use to pick up their children at Louisa elementary school’
–LOUISA resident Matt Adkins
“…For the last couple years neighbors have complained and asked school board, mayor, and chief of police to resolve issue without any success.
I understand the traffic from picking up children but the issue lies with parents showing up at 2pm close to a hour early each day and filling up the (loop) by around 2:15 pm cars park in the road on Lock Ave and blocking neighbors in and out from their homes. Cars sit parked in the middle of road and continue around corner on Sycamore blocking more people in and out of their home till after 3pm.
Also some parents park on up just past the parking lot and get out go in pick up their children sometimes across from another parked car blocking traffic. It’s a danger if there was an emergency it would be quite some time to clear the way to get to.
We have asked for parents to wait til 2:45 to line up to help with the issue with no luck also proposed they pave 2 lanes along the school so parents couldn’t go through adult learning center parking lot around side to the pick up door and go out access road that the school keeps blocked off and not using.
I am a tax payer and I should not have to literally sit on my porch and wait 45 min if I need to go somewhere nor should I have to sit in a nearby parking lot or stuck in next street over for 15 min trying to get home.
I don’t want to discourage parents from picking up their children and also understand that school funding is tight but there has to be some way to resolve the issue, if this was to be a private owned business doing so I’m sure something would have been done by now. There was issue with the other elementary school with same problem and it took until some lady wrecked and flipped her truck over on its top before the issue got resolved. I hope it does not take that for us.
We also tossed around idea of moving playground around to side of school and making a parking lot for parents , anytime there is an after school event or parent to come to school for play or event it’s a mess traffic parking in grass anywhere they can and the school needs more room to accommodate for their visitors. I’m sure they could fine some kind of state of emergency grant from state to fund the cost of resolving this issue.
