Both Lawrence Co. and Tolsia are coming off big wins last Friday night and both are making road trips tonight. The Dawgs are essentially okay for a Class 3A District 6 playoff game and the Rebels are looking to keep their slim playoff chances alive.
LCHS @ Belfry
Lawrence Co. 5-3 and 2-0 in District play make the trip to Pond Creek to battle the 4 time reigning Class 3A State Champion Belfry Pirates ( 6-1 ) who have won 6 games in a row after a season opening loss to #1 ranked Huntington, W. Va.
The Dawgs are coming in hot winning two in a row including a thrilling 38-36 victory over Pike Co. Central last Friday night. The Bulldogs gained over 400 yards in the ground led by Ashton Blankenship, Noah West and Dalton Ferguson.
Tonight could be a quick one because both teams like to run the football and keep the clock moving. The Pirates are led by running backs Derek Wellman and Taveon Hunter along with QB Kevin Browning.
Tolsia @ Tyler Consolidated
Tolsia ( 2-5 ) will make the three and half hour trip to Sistersville to take on #20 Tyler Consolidated ( 3-3 ). The Rebels are coming off their best game of the year in a 48-36 victory over #8 Mt. View last Friday night at Home.
The Rebels have to pretty much win out to make the playoffs and hope to ride the momentum of last week’s victory into tonight’s game.
Tolsia was led on the ground last week by Jonathon Johnson, Jared Switzer, Wayne Williamson and Steven Vanhoose plus the special teams showed up as well when Austin Gauze returned the opening kickoff of the third quarter for a touchdown.
I don’t know a lot about Tyler Consolidated but in the years past they like to pound the football.
