Lawrence Co. Baseball lost eight seniors off a 26 win team and a 15th Region final appearance in 2016. This year’s version doesn’t bring back much experience on the mound but never count out a Travis Feltner led team.
The Dawgs opened the season late last week and came away with two road wins against very good competition.
LC 5, PRESTONSBURG 3
Prestonsburg, Ky. — On Thursday to open the regular season the Dawgs came away with a 5-3 victory over the P-Burg Blackcats, one of the top teams in the 15th Region. The Fairchild brothers got the job done on the mound as Freshman CJ picked up the win and older brother Jarrett came in to get the save.
LC 7, ASHLAND 2
Ashland, Ky. — On a cold Friday night at Alumni field Lawrence Co. broke a 2-2 ballgame up with a five spot in the sixth inning to pick up another road victory 7-2.
Junior Peyton Cyrus put the Dawgs ahead with a RBI single and Sophomore Austin Roe also delivered a RBI single later in the inning.
Cyrus made a nice running catch in short centerfield with the bases loaded to keep the score tied going into the sixth inning. 7th Grader Bryce Blevins started and Kade Sword picked up the win in relief. Freshman Tyler Maynard had a double for the Dawgs.
Lawrence Co. will return to action with three more roads games this week. Tuesday at Paintsville, Thursday at Wayne, W.Va and Friday at Fleming Co. The Dawgs won’t play at home until March 22nd vs 60th District rival Belfry.
