From local Lawrence Co. EMS director Mike Woods…
After a conference call with US National Weather Service Charleston WV and US National Weather Service Jackson Kentucky here is the current weather situation:
We can expect snow to arrive by around noon on Thursday and last through Thursday night before tampering off towards Friday morning. We can generally expect around 2 inches of accumulation throughout Lawrence County but can’t rule out 3-4 inches on the higher hilltops.
Roadways are likely to become slick tomorrow afternoon and remain that way through at least Friday. Temperatures will be below freezing and likely will stay that way through the first of next week.
Remember more accidents generally occur with the first widespread snowfall of the year as people are out of practice driving in this type of weather. Please allow extra time to reach your destination and allow extra room between other vehicles. Don’t forget to watch for road crews and give them as much space as possible and avoid passing them while hey are plowing.
We can probably expect delays, early dismissals and closings tomorrow and Friday. Stay weather aware and continue to check for updates.
We are still watching a second system to our south for the weekend that could bring additional snow to the area.
THERE HAS BEEN NO WORD ON SCHOOL FOR FRIDAY AT THIS POINT, 2:30 PM THURSDAY.
