PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — On this date, 08/09/2016 @ 09:00 hours, a lock down occurred at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. The lock down was used to facilitate a search for contraband. The investigation was a joint effort by the Prestonsburg Police Department’s K-9 unit and BSRDC Corrections’ Officers along with aid from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
Prestonsburg Police Chief Larry Woods and Assistant Chief Gerald Clark along with K-9 handler, Officer Kenneth Prater, led the cell by cell search for illegal drugs today.
Johnson County Deputy Sheriff Terry Tussey accompanied BSRDC Corrections’ Officers in the search to bring formal charges against anyone found to possess any illegal substance or weapon.
After more than two hours of searching no drugs or illegal substances were found among the population of 222 Pretrial Detainees and State inmates.
