Kentucky Power Severe Storm Preparations
Monday, April 1, 2024, 2:45 p.m.
Weather
A strong storm system is likely to bring impactful weather to Kentucky Power’s service territory including thunderstorms, high winds and the potential for tornadoes, especially in the northeast. The event is expected to begin in the Ashland area around 8 p.m. tonight with storm impacts throughout the entire service area through Tuesday evening. Wind gusts of 50-65 mph are possible. There will be a lull on Tuesday afternoon until organized severe thunderstorms are expected to pick back up on Tuesday evening.
Summary
A widespread storm system with strong winds and the potential for tornadoes is expected to cause utility issues throughout Kentucky Power’s service area starting this evening through Tuesday evening. Customers are advised to prepare for the storm and plan for potential power outages.
Regarding the potential for tornadoes, customers should have a way to receive notifications and warnings throughout the night, and to ensure they have a plan in place including where to go if alerts are issued so they can seek shelter immediately. This is highly important, especially with storm activity occurring in the dark of night.

Should outages occur, our crews will be ready to restore power as quickly as possible. Kentucky Power personnel and business partners are prepared and ready to assess damage if outages occur.
