Fort Gay. W. Va. — When rivals meet you never know what you’re going to get and Friday night at Wilts Salmons Field was no different as #3 Tolsia ( 4-1 ) blew a 28 point lead but scored with just over a minute left to escape with a 44-36 victory over #14 Tug Valley ( 3-2 ) in front of a huge crowd.

#88 John Wilson drags down #9 Ethan Varney of Tug Valley.

The Rebels scored first on a John Wilson five yard jaunt and Tanner Copley found Devin Stull for the two point conversion and Tolsia lead 8-0 with 8:12 to go in the first quarter.

Josh Wilson catches a two point conversion pass from Jesse Muncy in the 4th quarter.
Both teams settled in on defense before Tug Valley QB Ethan Varney hit Caleb May for a 20 yard touchdown and then hit Easton Davis to make it 8-8 with 7:50 left in the first half.

Wilson scored his second touchdown of the night this time from 3 yards out to make it 14-8 with 5:10 left in the first half.

Tolsia got the ball back and on 4th Down and Stull went up between two defenders to haul in a Copley 20 yard pass and the two also connected for the two point pass to make it 22-8 with 27 second before half.

In the second half Tolsia added to their lead when Copley scampered in from 23 yards out to make it 28-8 with 4:58 left in the third period.

Zack Ball looking to get to the outside on his 45 yard touchdown run against rival Tug Valley.
Zack Ball took a jet sweep and went untouched 45 yards to pay dirt and Jesse Muncy walked into the end zone for the two point conversion to make it 36-8 with 1:45 left in the third period and the Rebels in complete control.

But the Panthers would not go away and scored 28 straight points beginning with a Varney to Tanner Kirk 3 yard pass and Varney to Ethan Colegrove two point pass with 37 seconds left in the third to make the score 36-16.

In the fourth quarter the Panthers inched closer when Varney found May for a 12 yard touchdown with 7:03 left in the game to make it 36-22.

After recovering a fumble Varney connected with Colegrove for a 20 yard strike with 5:37 left to make it 36-28.

After a Tolsia punt Varney hit May once again for a 12 yard touchdown and then ran in the two point conversion to make it 36-36 with 2:51 left.

On the final Rebel drive Jesse Muncy ran for 12 yards and Tanner Copley galloped 46 yards behind Stone Sartin to set up Tolsia at the 11 yard line Wilson scored the go ahead touchdown and Muncy hit Josh Wilson to make to 44-36 with 1:18 left.

Tolsia Head Coach Eric Crum’

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Anytime Tolsia and Tug Valley get together it’s a battle and tonight was no different. They are very athletic and really put our guys to the test at the end. We got tired and without a couple key guys it made it even tougher. We are still making too many silly mistakes right now.”

“… The last two years we have had big leads and just about blew the games but a win is a win. We are 4-1 right now with a big game next week against East Carter before a much needed bye week and hopefully we can get some guys healed up and back in action.”

Tolsia Junior Zack Ball

PLAYER’S COMMENT

“… Made me a little nervous when they tied it up after we had the big lead but I had confidence in our guys that we would go down and score. We have to eliminate our mistakes from now on.”
