 Clean up efforts ongoing;

LOUISA --Lawrence County Solid Waste Management director Bill Richards reported Monday that the annual county clean up in conunction with PRIDE, has been successful this year so far.

With over 440 volunteers, 684 hours of service and approximately 50 to 60 tons of garbage already collected, Richards was beaming.

“This year’s numbers are outstanding, and we still have until the end of the month,” said Richards.

“There was a delay in getting a dumpster out to Blaine Thursday morning, but it was in place and filled up in hours. That dumpster was replaced Friday evening. That second dumpster was quickly filled up as well.” The next scheduled dumpster to be on site will Friday.

Due to inclement weather on Saturday morning the volunteer lunch will be rescheduled at a later date.

As a reminder, free dumping is available on the last Friday and Saturday of every month.

 


Food City hosts Easter Egg Hunt on Palm Sunday

 

The Easter Bunny was busy this morning hiding apples, plastic eggs filled with candy, and plastic carrots for the eager seekers.

Food City held its annual Easter Egg Hunt behind the store at 12:00 Sunday, April 17, 2011.

Kids aged twelve and under were greeted by beautiful sunshine and a nice spring breeze.

Snacks of bananas, cookies, potato chips, candy bars and soda was at hand for those were in attendance.

Food City employees who volunteered their time were; Lequitte Perry, Organizer of the event, James Spears, Robert Perry, and Cheryl Gowen.

“I’ve done this for several years now and it just gets better every year” said Lequitte.

 Prizes were given away for those who collected the 14 Golden Apples, 2 plastic carrot eggs and the Grand Prize for the Granny Smith Apple was a large Easter Basket. Other prizes included chocolate bunnies, small Easter Baskets, coloring and activity sets.
