A spiffy new sign at the entrance of Ft. Gay, W.Va. is drawing rave reviews on social media and through word of mouth today.

Mayor Joetta Hatfield continues to earn rave reviews on the job she is doing to "clean up" the town and add a new look. Hatfield has had her hands full with the demolition of part of the old Ft. Gay School as well as nagging problems with the aged water system.

But the effort is paying off as residents and visitors are beginning to recognize how important 'visual' is to economic and social development.

The sign is painted in the old Ft. Gay High School colors of black and orange. The sign is painted in the old Ft. Gay High School colors of black and orange.

To "Firecracker".. .That's the family I'm talking about. They own that whole area, including the old car wash. Unfortunately, they take care of all their properties the same and I can't understand why. If I had all those properties and I was in business for myself, I would take much better care of them all. And thank you for your respect for Fort Gay.

Quoting Whatever....:
"Johnnie" - I figure you're from Louisa. Those eyesores belong to a very prominent family from Louisa. Not much that Joetta can do if the property owners won't cooperate or take care of their own properties.

I think it's great that Fort Gay is trying to clean up its image. It has looked run down for years. Those buildings are the first thing we see when we cross the bridge and they instantly give a bad image to Fort Gay. If a rich Louisa family owns them, it has to be the Clevangers. I don't know if I spelled the name right. They are bad to let property run down. Regardless, whoever owns the buildings, they need to clean things up in respect to Fort Gay.

Welcome to Fort Gay. If you need a haircut or a fillup, then youve come to the right place. Otherwise, we cant help you. This town doesn't even have a grocery store for crying out loud! Its good that Mrs Hatfield is trying to move Fort Gay in the right direction, but years of poor leadership and mismanaged revenue has ruined this community beyond repair im afraid. I sincerely hope im proven wrong, but there simply isnt anything to work with or build on.

Upkeep is very important. The sign next to the tracks is in need of some attention as is the one that used to be in the curve at the bank. Keep going and good things will happen.
