SLADE, Ky. – (April 6, 2018) – Learn about wildflowers and enjoy the spring season at Red River Gorge with the Kentucky Native Plant Society’s Wildflower Weekend April 13-14 at Natural Bridge State Resort Park.

The annual event includes hikes at the state park and in Red River Gorge on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for ages 13-17. Ages 12 and under are free. More information is available at

Natural Bridge State Resort Park at Slade has a lodge, cottages and restaurant.

There are several other wildflower opportunities at Kentucky State Parks during April and May. They include:

*  Second Saturday Hike on wildflowers at Lake Barkley State Resort Park near Cadiz on April 14 starting at 10 a.m.
Spring Wildflowers and Wild Edibles Hike at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park at Calvert City on April 14 at 10:30 a.m.


*  Wildflower Extravaganza at John James Audubon State Park in Henderson on April 14. Hikes start at 9 a.m.


*  Wildflower Pilgrimage at Carter Caves State Resort Park at Olive Hill on April 21.


*  Wildflower Hikes at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park near Dawson Springs on April 7 and May 3 at 10 a.m.

Six Trips Offered In April and May


OLIVE HILL, Ky. (March 30, 2018) – Plan a spring adventure on Tygarts Creek on a canoe or kayak with a 6-mile excursion hosted by Carter Caves State Resort Park.

The park is offering guided trips on six dates in 2018 – April 14, 21, 29 and May 2, 6 and 12.

The 3.5-hour trip down Tygarts Creek goes through one of Kentucky’s most beautiful limestone gorges.The 3.5-hour trip down Tygarts Creek goes through one of Kentucky’s most beautiful limestone gorges.

The 3.5 - hour trip down Tygarts Creek goes through one of Kentucky’s most beautiful limestone gorges. The park will provide canoes or kayaks, paddles, life vest, transportation shuttle from and back to the Welcome Center, and guides for your trip. The fee is $40 per person. (The fee is $30 a person if you bring your own canoe or kayak.)

Participants should have some paddle experience before signing up for these trips. Along the way participants will see high cliff sides and the natural beauty that the spring has to offer. There will also be a side trip into one of Kentucky’s largest natural limestone tunnels.

Guests should wear proper attire for cool weather paddling, a complete change of clothes, treaded footwear, flashlight (for natural tunnel visit), sack lunch, bottled water and a dry bag for your supplies. You must be at least 12 years old to participate and paddlers ages 15 and under must be with a legal guardian.

Participants will meet at the park Welcome Center and should be ready to leave at 9:30 a.m.
