Virginia "Granny" Slone

 1918 --2018

Virginia "Granny" Slone, 99, of Ulysses, KY went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Community Hospice Care Center of Ashland, KY. 

Mrs. Slone was born December 2, 1918 in Nats Creek, KY to the late William and Tinia (Fitch) Austin.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Slone, one daughter, Frances Hayes, one granddaughter, Cathy Hayes, one son in law, Ralph Lyons, and one sister, Garnett Austin. 

Mrs. Slone is survived by two daughters: Roma Slone of Ulysses, KY and Kay Lyons of Lowmansville, KY, a special sister in law, Minnie Slone,  a son in law, Willie Gene Hayes of Lowmansville, KY; six grandchildren, Willie (Tammy) Hayes, Jr., Jeff (Jennifer) Hayes, Tim (Paula) Hayes, Kim (Randy) Keeton, Jennifer (James) Maynard, and Michael (Michelle) Lyons, fourteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, her dog Tootie, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. 

Mrs. Slone was a homemaker and member of Belles Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 22 at Belles Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Lowmansville, KY with Rev. Hubert David Slone and Revs. Jeff & Willie Hayes officiating.  Burial will follow in Slone Cemetery, Ulysses, KY. 

Friends may visit the family on Friday, April 20 beginning at 4:00 pm until the time of services on Sunday at Belles Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. 

All arrangements and care for Mrs. Slone have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home. 


David F. Compton

1949 -- 2018


David F. Compton, 68, of Louisa, KY died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Community Hospice in Ashland, KY.

David was born June 8, 1949 in Louisa, KY to the late James Franklin and Joann (Hinkle) Compton.

Survivors include his wife Kimberly Compton; son and daughter in law Ramsey and Jenna Compton; grandson Levi Finn Compton; sister Jane V. Emory; and uncle and aunt Leonard and Betty Compton.

Visitation for Mr. Compton will be Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel.

A Memorial service will be conducted Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the First Baptist Church of Louisa Building Fund.

Herman Lee Berry, Jr.

1963 -- 2018


Herman Lee Berry, Jr., 55 of Fort Gay, WV died Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Three Rivers Medical Center.

Mr. Berry was born January 22, 1963 in Huntington, WV to Rev. Herman Lee and Lona (Watts) Berry.

Survivors include his wife Lisa Berry, his children Joseph Lee Berry and Jennifer Lee Jackson; stepchildren Danielle McDonald and Steven McDonald; grandchildren Megan Leeann Perry, Nicholas Lyndon Perry Jr., Haley Perry, Trinity Nevaeh McDonald, Rowdy John McDonald, and Rocky McDonald; and siblings Carl Berry (Charlotte), Ricky Berry (Bonnie), Lisa Ann McCloud (Frankie), Bobby Joe Berry, and Leona Dingess (Joshua), and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones. He will be greatly missed.

Private funeral services will be conducted by the family at a later date. Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Berry.
