Haskell Arrington, Jr.


Funeral Services for Haskell Arrington, Jr. who passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 11:30 am in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond with Pastor Cliff Smith officiating. His family will receive friends from 10:30am-11:30am preceding the service. A reception will be held after the service also at the funeral home followed by interment.

Mr. Arrington was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Louisa High School where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Janet. He owned and operated his family's farm, Arrington Acres, a poultry farm. He then moved to Columbus, Ohio and worked for Westinghouse. He also worked as a Boilermaker. He and his wife returned to Kentucky then later moved to the Daytona Beach area. Haskell worked at the Daytona 500 International Speedway and then at the Daytona Beach News Journal, working his way up to Circulation Manager. He retired after 25 years of service. He loved NASCAR, the University of Kentucky "Wildcat" Basketball and spending time with his grandchildren. Truly, his grandchildren were his greatest joy and he spent countless hours with them. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Janet, his two daughters Carole (Richard "Chip") Oglesby of Jacksonville, FL and Renita (Richard) Kershaw of Ormond Beach, FL, his four grandchildren Spencer & Stuart Kershaw and Trevor & Libby Oglesby, his two sisters Delores Setliff of Reynoldsburg, OH and Ann Kiger of Washington Courthouse, OH, and his sister -in-law Judy (Bob) Bayes of Grayson, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Linda Lehman and Brooksie Call.

Memorial Donations may be made in his memory to the F.A.I.T.H. program, c/o First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, 118 Palmetto Dr., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Condolences for the family may be shared at:

Charles Ballard Hale

1930 - 2011


Charles Ballard Hale, 80, of Kenova, W.Va. died Monday July 18, 2011 at the Hospice of Huntington after a short illness. 

Mr. Hale was born July 29, 1930 in East Lynn, W.Va. a son of the late Lucien S. and Lina Miller Hale. He worked 40 years as a typesetter for the Huntington Herald Dispatch. He was a member of the Ceredo Church of Christ and a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Avonelle Crawford Hale, of Kenova, W.Va., one son; Edward Arley Hale of Foley, Alabama, and three grandchildren; Heather, Elizabeth and Ashley.

Graveside services will held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 21, 2011 at White Chapel Cemetery in Barboursville, W.Va. under the direction of Young Funeral Home of Louisa, Ky. 

There will be no visitation.

Rita Gail Blackburn Ratcliff

1952 - 2011

Rita Gail Blackburn Ratcliff, 59, of Louisa passed away Sunday July 17, 2011 at her home after a short illness.

Born June 14, 1952 in Williamson, W.Va., a daughter of the late Bill and Gladys Endicott Blackburn, Rita Gail was a housewife and a member of New Friendshp United Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her loving husband of 41 years, James R. Ratcliff, of Louisa, Ky., one son; James Justin Ratcliff of Louisa, Ky., one sister; Marguarette Harvey of Phoenix, Arizona, one brother; Gus Davis of Marion, Ohio, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Elder John Goble officiating. Burial will follow at Hammonds Cemetery at Big Laurel in Martin County, Ky.

Visitation will be 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Young Funeral Home with family gathering at 2:00 p.m.
