May Utilities Board Meeting Minutes...

The Louisa Water and Sewer Commission met in regular business session May 1, 2018 with Mayor Harold Slone presiding. In attendance were Board Members Steven Lycans, Jeff Kinser, Mitch Castle, Heath Preston, and Sam Lester. Others in attendance were Martin Wright, Brandon Leedy, Bud Adams, Gina Woods and Jason Helton.

 

  1. Call to order, 6:07pm
  2. Motion to approve minutes from April 2018 meeting by Steven Lycans, Second by Heath Preston. All Approve.
  3. Mayor advised that he attended the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority meeting in April where he was approved for the downtown water rehab project, which will replace the oldest remaining water lines in the city, currently nearing 100 years old, nearly half of this will be paid for by grants the remaining with a KIA loan, these water lines leak frequently and affect the quality of service to the customers along, Rice, Boone, Lackey, Pike and Pocahontas St.
  4. Mayor Updated the board on the water meter changeout project. He advised that he had spoke with the owner of the contracting company on 5/1/2018, The company is currently going over all meters for a quality control check. Mayor gave deadline to installers of June 1st for completion of all installations.
  5. Supervisor Martin Wright advised the board of a Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) failure. The failure resulted in multiple blown lines and water heaters for customers. He estimates 10-15 blown water heaters and damaged water lines, with resulting interior damage to homes. Insurance will pay damages to customers.
  6. Reviewed financials. Discussed the fact that expenses were up sharply from the same period in 2017. Mostly due to repairs for water leaks from the cold weather in January and February. Board reviewed the proposed FY 2018-2019 budget. Motion to approve budget made by Heath Preston, with $12,000 added to sewer department for purchase of new equipment. Second by Mitch Castle. All approve. Will go to city council for final approval.
  7. Board reviewed water loss report. No actions taken.
  8. Adjourned at 7:35pm. Motion by Jeff Kinser, second by Steven Lycans, all approve.

I think you do good on a lot of things. The things that you don’t do, or take an interest in, far outweigh the the other.

Just wondering why it took so long to replace the water lines while citizens have been paying bills? Where did the money go? What exactly has been fixed with the customers $$? These old lines have to be toxic, complete joke, when it comes to money management. Ever heard of maintenance?
